The program picked 39 charities to participate in this year’s events. Each 1st year charity is responsible for recruiting a minimum of 25 charity runners, raising a minimum of $7,000 and supplying 10 volunteers the day of the races. The purpose of the program is for runners to make a difference while achieving their own personal goals. Last year the “Run for a Reason” program raised more than $750,000 for charity!
This is WPHS’s first year participating and at first we were a little intimidated by or goals. We quickly realized we had some AMAZING Volunteers, Staff Members and fellow animal lovers to were going to it possible to make a HUGE impact. We re-assesed our goal and made a stretch goal of $15,000. Just think of how many animals we could save!
The Half Marathon is now sold out and the Full Marathon and Relay Races are almost sold out as well. We have 49 charity runners, who already raised more than $8,500 for WPHS! They have made it possible for us to be able to participate again next year. But, we are still striving to meet our stretch goal of $15,000.
You can help our charity runners several ways. First, visit our fundraising page at www.supportwpahumane.org and reading our runners stories and see why they support WPHS. You can also pick a runner who’s story speaks to you and share it with your friends and family via FaceBook, Twitter or Email. Second, show them your support with a donation. Finally, come out on Sunday, May15th from 6-10AM to the Western PA Humane Society North Shore Shelter and cheer them on! The races will becoming right past the shelter down Western Avenue.
Watch the slide show below to see who inspired some of our charity runners.
